Harrison Armstrong has shared exactly how his Everton loan exit came about after joining Preston North End for the season.

It turned into a busy summer for the young Everton midfielder, who ended up leaving for the Championship outfit in the final hours of the window.

David Moyes was keen to bring in some new midfielders over the summer, and his wish was granted by the Friedkins.

Having signed the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Merlin Rohl, Moyes was very pleased with Everton’s transfer business following the deadline.

However, Armstrong’s future remained hanging in the balance for most of the summer at Finch Farm.

Having joined Championship side Preston, Armstrong shared exactly what Moyes said to him whilst his future was being resolved.

Harrison Armstrong shares David Moyes final words at Everton

Having seen the youngster depart for the season, Moyes has urged Armstrong to grow physically during his time at Preston.

The midfielder is by no means a small individual, but the 62-year-old is looking to see him bulk up slightly if he wants to play in the Premier League.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Armstrong has shared exactly how his loan move away came about in the final hours.

“I think it was just a matter of the opportunity and timing. I was fortunate to go away with them in pre-season and get some good minutes and I thought I did well in the games I was involved in,” said Armstrong.

“But I think just towards the end of the window it made more sense for me to go and get more regular game time and express myself on a consistent basis.”

“He [Moyes] told me how good of a club it is. How good the people are and that I’ll enjoy myself. That’s all you can really ask for.

“Once the off the pitch stuff is taken care of, the stuff on the pitch takes care of itself.”

Armstrong has admitted he’s been really impressed by Preston and the way the club have already accepted him into the squad.

He has shown last season that he is capable of taking the Championship by storm, and this is just another opportunity to show those at Everton what he is capable of.

After returning from Derby County, it was obvious that Armstrong wanted to impress at Everton over the summer.

And he did that, with Moyes admitting Armstrong looked a different player on the back of his stint in the Championship.

However, it did not prove enough for Moyes to put all his eggs in Armstrong’s basket, as he looked for more senior additions in the window.

At the age of 18, this is still just the beginning for the Evertonian, who has a long future at the Hill Dickinson Stadium ahead of him.

Everton fans were impressed with Armstrong during pre-season and his time will likely come in having an impact on the starting XI.
