Everton are set to fight the £40m compensation verdict requiring them to pay Burnley.

The news came as a shock for all at Everton, with Burnley’s appeal against the PSR breach from a number of seasons ago.

Everton’s £40m verdict is now expected to affect summer business on Merseyside as the Premier League will not stack the payment against the financial regulations.

How are we being punished again by the Premier League? 😡

However, the payment to the Championship club will be put on hold, with the appeal expected to be heard later in the year.

When Everton’s appeal in Burnley trial will be heard

Peter Reid has slammed the Premier League for their latest punishment against the Blues for something that happened years ago.

The biggest frustration remains that this all comes after Everton had already been hit with the punishment of points being deducted during the 2023/24 campaign.

“What I think is most likely now actually is that, from what I’m told, the appeal is likely to be heard much later this year,” said Patrick Boyland on The Blue Room.

“We may not then, because of how long these things take, get a verdict until comfortably into next year if things follow us kind of the same logical time frame and I think that means that then this kind of fades into the background a little bit.”

Although this mess was created under Farhad Moshiri, The Friedkin Group are backing Everton’s appeal against the Premier League’s verdict.

The American owners are willing to pay the compensation to the Clarets – if it comes to that – but they are keen to support the club in their fight against the verdict.

Everton have appointed Slaughter and May to represent them in the appeal against the Premier League, with a long road clearly ahead of the club.

Clubs across the country have been left waiting for years on a verdict over Manchester City’s alleged financial breaches, with no result emerging yet.

Despite this, it appears Everton are being made the example once again by the powers that be.
