What Malick Fofana is aware of right now that’ll have Everton boss David Moyes nervous

Everton fans are crying out for more new signings, after last night’s pre-season defeat to Bournemouth.

The Toffees lost 3-0 to the Cherries in the States, and the result has left some feeling worried with the new season only a few weeks away.

David Moyes still wants several new signings before the campaign gets underway.

And the signing of a new right winger is a priority for Everton, and a host of players have been linked with a move in recent weeks.

On Saturday, there was some excitement when Fabrizio Romano reported that Everton were in advanced talks to sign Malick Fofana.

Fofana is a player Everton have tracked for a while, and it had seemed like a move was well on course to happen.

However, fans may now need to curb their expectations.

Fofana would certainly make an exciting signing.

The young Belgian hit 11 goals and six assists in 41 appearances last term for Lyon, which was a far bigger final third output than Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom combined for Everton.

It was suggested that Everton had made a bid worth £31 million for Fofana.

But last night Alan Myers downplayed Everton’s interest in Fofana, saying a move is not actually as advanced as was first reported.

And this morning, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has dropped a somewhat ominous update on Fofana.

He wrote: “Malick Fofana has other plans than joining Everton Football Club.

“As told yesterday, the Belgian Red Devil knows some teams playing Champions League that are waiting to make room in the squad are interested in him.”

Work to do for Everton to sign Fofana

There are shades of the Kenny Tete pursuit here with Fofana.

Everton have looked on track to land Tete, only to end up missing out with the player staying at Fulham.

Yesterday there was very positive language about Everton’s pursuit of Fofana, but today it is looking like things may not be as advanced as first reported.

Fofana is a huge talent, and the potential to play in the Champions League is likely something he is thinking about.

Everton obviously can’t offer that, but can offer the chance to play at a world-class stadium every other week, with new owners at the helm and a new era on the horizon.

Hopefully, those things will ultimately sway Fofana to Merseyside.
