The January transfer window could provide the Blues with a big opportunity to bolster their squad with The Friedkin Group set to complete their Everton takeover by the end of December.

Although he joined in the summer of 2008, Fellaini also joined at a difficult period for the club but it seems he was not fully aware of that.

What shocked Marouane Fellaini after signing for Everton

Everton were able to sign Fellaini back in 2008 in a deal worth around £15m in what was a club record fee for the Toffees.

Speaking to Belgian journalist Fillip Joos prior to signing for the Toffees, Fellaini was left shocked by just how low in the league table Everton were ahead of his signing.

“I said that luck would be necessary as Everton were 16th in the Premier League at the time. Fellaini looked at me with wide eyes and asked if I was serious,” the journalist told Voetbalkrant.

“He had just signed a contract with a new club but hadn’t looked at the standings. The numbers may have spoken for themselves.”

Fellaini certainly enjoyed a positive spell at Goodison Park, however, it could have not even happened had he known just how much Everton were struggling.

Fellaini loved is time at Everton

Although Fellaini could well have made a different decision on his future had he known how poorly Everton were playing at the time, he certainly enjoyed his time on Merseyside.

The giant Belgian proved a real threat with his physicality offering the Toffees something completely different to what anyone else had in the league.

“David Moyes watched me for a few months, or a year or more. Everton is a great club, the competition is high, it was the right time for me to move,” Fellaini told EvertonTV.

Everton may have bee 16th when Fellaini joined but the Toffees were able to climb the table by ending the campaign in fifth.
