Everton have been strongly linked with a move for Sunderland captain Dan Neil this week.

David Moyes may be starting to get slightly worried over Everton’s transfer situation with the deadline quickly approaching.

The Scotsman has now been at the helm on Merseyside for nearly two weeks and he’s still awaiting his first January addition.

Moyes has been keen to sign two players for Everton this month, but it has proven a difficult market to operate in.

With the wait ongoing for their first signing, the list of targets may well be dwindling.

It has been suggested Everton are showing interest in Sunderland’s Dan Neil earlier this week, and Alan Myers has shared his understanding on the situation.

Everton are not eyeing a move for Sunderland’s Dan Neil

Sources have told Everton News that Sunderland are not prepared to sell Neil in January as they aim to keep their top players around.

The Black Cats are eyeing automatic promotion this season and losing their captain would be a major blow.

Taking to social media, Myers has now suggested that he has been told Neil is not even an option for the Toffees this month.

Replying to a fan on reported interest in the 23-year-old, Myers replied: ‘I’m told that’s not the case’.

The Friedkins were eying a new midfielder for Everton in the January window, but the Toffees have now seen two players return from injury recently.

James Garner is now available for selection and Tim Iroegbunam has returned to Everton training after over three months sidelined.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris shares Dan Neil transfer update

The Sunderland academy product has been made captain of his boyhood club as the Wearsiders finally look to make a return to the Premier League.

Neil has played a crucial role in Sunderland’s success of late under Regis Le Bris with 28 appearances to his name this season.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, the Sunderland boss shared talks held between the club and Neil’s agent over a new deal.

“I know we have with Kristjaan [Speakman] has had many conversations with his agent and probably in progress. I don’t know,” said the Frenchman.

“He’s very important for us because on the pitch it’s not easy to assess the way he helps the team. He’s tactically very smart and can quickly understand what happens on the pitch.”
