Everton and Liverpool’s final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park ended in the way only these two sides know how.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the game ended in yet another draw as Everton were able to avoid defeat on the historic occasion for the club.

James Tarkwoski’s last-minute equaliser sent Goodison Park into bedlam and the incidents after the game saw both sides receive red cards.

David Moyes was disappointed by Abdoulaye Doucoure’s involvement in the scenes after the full-time whistle as he wound up the Liverpool fans.

However, there is something else which happened after the game that could see one player face retrospective action from the FA.

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk could face FA sanction after Everton draw

Doucoure mocked Virgil van Dijk after the game as the midfielder silenced the Liverpool captain in the aftermath.

The Dutchman was clearly furious as he slammed referee Michael Oliver in his post-match interview.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the Liverpool captain did not hold back in his assessment of the referee’s performance in their draw at Goodison.

“I think the referee had a big part in the game today in terms of certain challenges were given as fouls and similar weren’t,” he said.

“In the end, it is just disappointing to concede a very good strike, but a disappointing one.”

“I didn’t think the referee had the game under control. Both teams had to deal with it.”

He was not the only Liverpool figure to lose his head with Arne Slot furious with Everton fans during the game.

However, his comments could well see him face retrospective action after he made the comments outside of Oliver’s control.

Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams faced FA sanction for referee criticism

Last season, Nottingham Forest felt extremely hard done to in some of their games with full-back Neco Williams eventually slamming the referee after their defeat to Everton.

It seems to be a reoccurring theme at Goodison for the opponents to leave feeling aggrieved, but the Wales international faced a hefty punishment for the comments he made after the game.

After feeling the referee had missed three penalties for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, Williams suggested there was bias against Forest.

“Is it because we are lower bottom half table teams?” he said after the game.

“I guarantee top-six teams are getting every single one of them. It’s ridiculous.”

Following these comments, Williams was hit with a £24k fine by the FA and was issued a warning for future conduct.

His comments are not too dissimilar to what Van Dijk had to say and the Dutchman could potentially see a similar fine heading his way.
