‘Brilliant’ Premier League defender could make late Everton move after his club approve January exit

Everton are still on the lookout for the first January signing as the deadline nears just over a week away.

Coming into the winter market, the main concern was Everton’s lack of goal threat shown throughout the season.

The victory over Tottenham Hotspur may have masked those struggles, but David Moyes has taken on one of the lowest-scoring sides in the league.

Moyes would like Everton to sign another forward this month as uncertainties remain over some of his current options.

However, the 60-year-old is also keen on the idea of adding another full-back to his squad with Vitaliy Mykolenko the only senior left-back at the club.

And there could well be an opportunity presenting itself to the Toffees.

Everton keen to make late Ben Chilwell move

Chelsea and Everton have been in talks over Armando Broja and his future on Merseyside following his latest injury.

The conversations have opened a dialogue between the two clubs following the loan agreed in the summer.

And according to Team Talk, Everton are showing a real interest in Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell.

It is believed the 28-year-old no longer has a future in west London with Enzo Maresca not viewing him as part of his plans at Stamford Bridge.

As a result, Chilwell could be moved out of the club before the end of the window with Everton keen.

Moyes addressed Everton’s need to sign another left-back during Friday’s press conference ahead of the Brighton & Hove Albion game.

Chilwell is a player who is in desperate need of a new club to kickstart his career and Everton could well be a suitable landing spot.

Ben Chilwell poses another injury risk for Everton

Chilwell has been praised by Pep Guardiola in the past with the left-back having plenty of experience at the top level.

And England boss Thomas Tuchel previously hailed Chilwell ‘brilliant’ in a 2021 press conference during his time at Chelsea.

However, there would surely be some real concerns over his inability to stay fit across a season.

Everton already have a number of players who struggle to maintain availability over the course of the campaign.

Mykolenko is in talks over a new Everton contract with the Ukraine international nailing down the spot at left-back.

It would be interesting to see whether Chilwell would potentially be open to battling it out for the spot in the starting XI.
