Everton have reportedly been in the market for a new striker – with Callum Wilson having been linked.

David Moyes has seen his two options up top struggle for most of the season, although Thierno Barry has now come into a bit of form for the Toffees.

The Frenchman has three goals in four Premier League games now, and his display against Aston Villa – which featured a sublime finish – was highly encouraging.

But there is an argument to say that Everton still need a new striker – potentially to replace Beto.

Would YOU take Callum Wilson at Everton? 🤔

And one man who’s reportedly been on Everton’s radar is Callum Wilson.

Nuno Espirito Santo was coy over Wilson when asked about his future after West Ham United beat Tottenham Hotspur.

But it looks like Everton’s hopes of landing him could now be over.

It has been reported this morning that Wilson is now set to stay at West Ham, following reports he was going to terminate his contract to become a free agent.

Journalist Ben Jacobs reported on X: “Callum Wilson set to stay at West Ham following his late winner at Tottenham on Saturday, as @ExWHUEmployee called.

“West Ham and Wilson had started talks to terminate but the former Newcastle striker is now expected to remain at West Ham.

“Celtic and Al-Shabab two clubs who have been exploring a move this winter.”

Fabrizio Romano has also said: “Callum Wilson, set to stay at West Ham this month with no plans to part ways at this stage of the window.”

The development is likely to please some Everton fans, with many not wanting Wilson to join.

Several aired their feelings on Everton News’ TalkingPoints feed, pointing out his worrying injury record and the fact he is no longer in his prime.

It seems the goal he scored against Spurs to help West Ham win the game may have played a part in the decision.

Wilson would have been a risk for Everton

Wilson may well have come in and provided some good experience and cover.

But it is also very difficult to ignore that injury record of his, and so it’s no great shame that Everton won’t be signing him.

Everton should still be on the lookout for a new striker though, as a replacement for Beto is surely needed.

Youssef En-Nesyri has also been linked with Everton, but his priority is seemingly Juventus, and if not them then Napoli.

We’ll see what transpires, but hopefully The Friedkin Group can deliver in these last couple of weeks of the window.
