Everton are said to be keen on signing Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil as David Moyes hopes to strengthen this window.

Everton hope for big changes in the summer, but Toffees fans will no doubt be keen on the prospect of a few arrivals this winter.

The possibility of signings will probably be expected after Moyes has been given £40m to spend as The Friedkin Group could have pressure on their heads to make moves this January.

Sunderland’s Dan Neil is of interest to Everton as the Mackams’ captain will definitely make a good addition to Moyes’ plans.

As it comes, Neil has already revealed his future at Sunderland amid the Everton links.

Dan Neil has already shared his stance on move to Everton

The 23-year-old is looking like an exciting talent having impressed Regis Le Bris at Sunderland.

It comes as no surprise that Everton are being mooted with someone of Neil’s ability as he could certainly play for a team struggling in the Premier League, or even beyond.

Sunderland don’t want to sell Neil, but that may not stop a pursuit from Everton, however, the midfielder’s own wishes may do.

Speaking to the Sunderland Echo in December on his future, Neil said: “In terms of the contract stuff, my only goal is to get us promoted this season.

“That’s everyone’s goal this season and we just need to keep plugging away. All that [contract talk etc] is background noise, I’m here and all I’m interested in is those automatic places and getting us promoted back to the Premier League.”

Everton should reignite interest in Neil come the summer window

Unfortunately for Everton fans, Neil may have to be a target for the summer window.

It’s unlikely the Sunderland captain will leave with the Mackams’ position in the Championship.

Some would say he would have more chance of being in the Premier League with Sunderland than Everton next season, but Seamus Coleman knows Moyes will take Everton forward.

This doesn’t mean Everton should give up entirely on Neil.

After his performances in the Championship this season, it should be a no-brainer that Everton consider the Sunderland midfielder.

The benefit for Everton is that if Sunderland don’t gain promotion, the door will surely be open for Moyes to pounce.
