Everton are finally starting to accelerate moves for signings this January transfer window.
David Moyes has made it clear he needs signings, however, 22 days into the window and there’s yet to be any movement into Goodison Park.
A deal to sign Ernest Nuamah collapsed earlier this week as Lyon no longer need to sell due to receiving a £27m cash injection from Luis Henrique’s sale.
Meanwhile, the deal to sign Baris Alper Yilmaz looks extremely unlikely given Galatasaray won’t sanction his sale for any less than £33m – which is believed to be out of their budget.
Everton are now turning their attention to Marcus Edwards and they have contacted Sporting over a deal.
That said, here is how Everton fans are reacting to the Edwards rumours.

Everton fans react to Marcus Edwards rumours
Everton fans have been reacting to the links to out-of-favour Sporting man Marcus Edwards this week and some have claimed this is the ideal signing for Moyes, having reinvented the likes of Jesse Lingard in the past.
@spuddy1878 posted: “Marcus Edwards is exactly a David Moyes type signing, huge potential as a youngster but not quite fulfilled that so far in his career.”
@mhart89efc replied: “Exactly what I’ve just been thinking. Former wonderkid lost his way, new manager doesn’t fancy him, a very Moyes-type move if it’s true.”
“Feels like exactly the right kind of move for both parties, we might not be what we once were but the ethos of the club is still strong in our squad and staff,” @izaakearl added.
@CrawfordTartan said: “Possibility is definitely there for a mutually beneficial move. Sometimes a player has to go to the right club, at the right time, under the right manager to thrive.”
“All hoping these Marcus Edwards rumours are true, be very nice,” @CharlieBarnicle commented.
@siewakes20 simply said: “Marcus Edwards would be a class signing.”
Edwards has been likened to Lionel Messi
When Edwards was coming through Tottenham’s youth ranks, he caught the eye of then manager Mauricio Pochettino, who said he reminded him of Lionel Messi in the way he plays.
“The qualities – it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.
“He (Edwards) is a very good prospect and potentially he can be a top player, but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent, enough talent to be a top player, a great player. But now it’s how he builds his future, that’s very important. And it’s our responsibility to tell him.”
Indeed if Moyes can bring that player out of Edwards now, he’ll be an inspired signing.
