There’s still no sign of a new signing at Everton but David Moyes is ensuring the club are pursuing deals.

Moyes made it clear he needs signings after his side beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 on the weekend. He recognises the club can’t become complacent after a good result.

Only four points separate them and the relegation zone, so there’s still a pressing need to add quality to the squad.

Everton have been working on signing Ernest Nuamah from Lyon but that deal is now very unlikely to happen.

Marcus Edwards has been linked to Goodison Park and so too has Galatasaray’s Baris Alper Yilmaz, though, there are doubts around how concrete Everton’s interest is.

Everton have also been looking at signing a striker to support Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has struggled in front of goal this term.

With that said, Everton target Evan Ferguson is set to hold crunch talks with Brighton.

Evan Ferguson set to hold crunch talks with Brighton

Everton have been heavily linked with Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson all month.

It emerged last month that Brighton were willing to loan Ferguson in January having fallen back in the pecking order on the South Coast.

However, over the last few weeks, the Seagulls have suffered a number of injuries in attack, with Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck spending time on the sidelines.

So it appeared Ferguson would be remaining put, but now, according to the Athletic, the Republic of Ireland international is set to hold talks with Brighton over whether he’ll be allowed to depart the club this window.

Everton will certainly be awaiting the outcome eagerly.

Fabian Hurzeler remains coy on Ferguson’s future

Speaking to the media in Thursday’s press conference, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler remained coy on Ferguson’s future but did appear to hint that he could leave for more game time.

“It’s very important that we talk about these things internally, that we know the player’s view,” Hurzeler explained.

“The way of Brighton & Hove Albion is to get young players in, try to improve them. He is from our academy. Of course, we see his potential, but it is also important that he gets enough game time to develop and to improve.

“Therefore, it’s always a decision we make together. We want to hear his opinion, his thoughts. We want to hear also his needs, his wishes and then it is also the club’s side. Then it is about making the right decision together. Honestly, I don’t know yet.”

If Brighton do decide to offload Ferguson this month, Everton are expected to face competition from West Ham United.

The Hammers are in the market for a new centre-forward after Niclas Fullkrug sustained a long-term injury.
