Everton were able to create a seven-point cushion to the bottom three on Saturday afternoon.

David Moyes secured himself his second victory since returning to Merseyside as Everton prevailed against Brighton & Hove Albion.

However, there were some issues for the Toffees along the way down on the south coast.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has suffered a hamstring injury, which was described as a ‘genuine concern’ by Moyes shortly after full-time.

It was not just the 28-year-old who suffered with Orel Mangala also picking up his own issue.

With the Friedkins eyeing two signings during this winter window, Kevin Thelwell will have his work cut out over the coming days.

Prior to the game, Moyes was spotted speaking privately to one man who The Friedkin Group are keen to bring to Merseyside.

David Moyes spotted speaking to Everton target David Weir

Thelwell and Moyes are assessing their Everton transfer targets ahead of the final week of the transfer window.

This could well be Thelwell’s final transfer window at the club with the Friedkins reportedly looking to replace him.

It has been suggested Everton are targeting David Weir as Thelwell’s successor.

And on Saturday afternoon, Moyes was spotted speaking to the TFG target and Brighton chief, Weir, ahead of the game on the south coast.

Of course, what was said between the pair is not known but Weir does have previous with Everton having previously played for the Toffees.

Weir played 140 times for Everton under Moyes with the pair going way back.

Thelwell has now missed out on signing Ernest Nuamah this month as he looks set to go into the final week still searching his first signing.

The pressure may well be on the 51-year-old.

David Moyes is keen to hire familiar faces

Moyes and Weir have history together during the former defender’s playing career on Merseyside.

Since he has returned, it has become clear Moyes is keen to hire people who he knows and trusts.

Alan Irvine has recently been appointed by Everton as he also joined with former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam.

The Friedkins have been keen to approve Moyes’ demands off the pitch as he has so far returned the results on the pitch.

It is not just Irvine who Moyes has brought in with Billy McKinlay appointed as Everton’s assistant manager.

Thelwell may still be in a job at Goodison, but with his contract running out this summer, TFG may well already be working on his replacement.
