Everton dodge a bullet as Ally McCoist blasts ‘lazy’ striker just hours after David Moyes retracts interest

As the transfer window begins to countdown towards the deadline, Everton will have to decide their best strategy for signing players.

Orel Mangala’s injury may be alarming to Everton as they look for a replacement in what is an already thin squad.

There hasn’t been success for the Toffees this January as the likes of Ernest Nuamah have snubbed Everton.

With targets failing Everton may have to settle for players they hadn’t planned on signing before the window began.

Another target that never came to join has now been called out by Ally McCoist which may have actually worked out in David Moyes’ favour.

Everton dodge a bullet as Ally McCoist blasts Hamza Igamane

After it was revealed that Hamza Igamane won’t join Everton, once again the Toffees will have to look at alternatives this window.

Many Evertonians think the club can’t afford Igamane, but it may be for different reasons after Rangers’ Europa League clash on Thursday night.

Commentating for TNT Sports on Rangers’ 2-1 win against Union Saint-Gilloise, McCoist was fuming with Igamane after he attempted a pass but gave the ball away.

“That is slack, that is slack. Lazy. It is lazy outside of the right foot. Not for me that, that is a real opportunity, a real opportunity. It is laziness,” McCoist said.

“It might sound a little bit harsh on Igamane but he’s got to do better. I am telling you. He’s struggled. There is no doubting his talent and he’s been excellent but not tonight. That is so slack, it really is. Just knock it with the inside of your foot and let the player go through on goal.”

Igamane performance shows exactly why Everton didn’t sign him

As harsh as it is to judge Igamane on one performance, Everton may have dodged a bullet by dropping out of the race for the striker.

Despite Rangers’ success on Thursday, it didn’t reflect well on Igamane who had a game to forget.

Igamane’s statistics in Rangers’ 2-1 win over Union SG

Duels lost12 (most in the match)

Successful dribbles %3/8 (38%)

There is no doubt whatsoever that Everton need a striker, but a select few Everton fans may be happy the deal never came to an occurrence.

Rangers wanted £25m for Igamane, but after last night’s display, they’d be lucky to get £10m.
