Everton will have no other choice but to add more players in the January transfer market and a midfielder will be on the agenda.

The Friedkins have already backed David Moyes in the summer transfer window with nine new signings, but more is needed.

It has been a difficult past few weeks for Everton in terms of injuries and there are concerns over squad depth heading into the game against Arsenal on Saturday.

Everton have identified Conor Gallagher as a January target to address some of the issues surrounding the quality in midfield.

The England international is looking for a way back into Thomas Tuchel’s thoughts ahead of the summer World Cup.

With Everton’s midfield options taking a real hit in the last few days, Gallagher’s priority has now been shared ahead of the window opening.

It has been suggested that intermediaries are now working on a potential January transfer for Gallagher, who has a clear transfer demand.

The 25-year-old is prioritising a return to England, with the following clubs credited with interest:

Everton’s James Garner is also looking to impress Tuchel ahead of the World Cup next summer, but the 24-year-old is in need of some midfield cover on Merseyside.

Clearly, there is going to be a lot of competition for Gallagher’s signature. However, Everton have already shown the platform they can offer with Jack Grealish’s resurgence since signing.

Everton’s midfield options have taken a real blow

Idrissa Gana Gueye has now left Everton for AFCON. The Senegal midfielder will not be expected back until mid-January.

Adding to Moyes’ issues was the serious blow at the weekend when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall suffered a hamstring injury against Chelsea.

It has not been revealed how serious the injury is just yet, but the 27-year-old was quickly withdrawn against the Blues.

Garner is also walking a tightrope, with the Everton mainstay now just one yellow card away from serving a one-game suspension.

Even if Dewsbury-Hall’s injury news comes back positive, the Blues still appear light heading into the second half of the term.
