Everton have made a solid start with David Moyes back on Merseyside.
It has been a difficult season for Everton who have found themselves struggling around the foot end of the table.
But Moyes has been able to guide the Toffees to a nine-point cushion on the relegation zone with three wins from three.
Moyes admitted Everton aren’t safe from relegation just yet, but it has undoubtedly been a brilliant start under the Scotsman.
However, it could have panned out much differently for Everton with a number of other managers on the Friedkins’ radar before appointing Moyes.

Everton eyed Graham Potter before David Moyes
Graham Potter was a managerial target for Everton before he made the move to West Ham.
However, the Toffees ended up with the 61-year-old who has returned to where he got his first big break in Premier League football.
Everton’s decision to even target Potter is one which has left Jamie Carragher absolutely baffled.
“When Graham Potter was linked with the club, my initial thought was: ‘he’s not an Everton manager’,” Carragher said on The Overlap.
“I can’t see that at Goodison Park. I can’t envisage him doing an interview after the game.”
David Moyes has been really impressed with the Everton players and it has to be questioned whether Potter would have gotten the same response.
Players like Jake O’Brien who were outcasted by Sean Dyche have now been given a fresh lease of life under Moyes.
Moyes has made a better start than Potter
The start on Merseyside Moyes has experienced has totally transformed the outlook at Everton.
When he arrived, Everton were sitting narrowly above the drop zone and they are now nine clear of relegation.
The new manager bounce has not been experienced at the London Stadium with the Hammers continuing to struggle even after sacking Julen Lopetegui.
Four games into Moyes’ tenure, it is safe to say the Scotsman has enjoyed the better of starts between the two managers.
| David Moyes | Graham Potter | |
|---|---|---|
| Wins | 3 | 1 |
| Draws | 0 | 1 |
| Defeats | 1 | 3 |
| Points per game | 2.25 | 0.8 |
Safety may still be a while off, but Moyes is already eyeing summer improvements at Everton when the window opens.
And it seems the Friedkins certainly got this decision right.
