Everton are working away to get new players in on transfer deadline day, but seemingly the chances of landing one target are now slim to zero.

Everton are signing Charly Alcaraz, with a deal having already been struck with Brazilian club Flamengo.

But the club are still trying for more players, even though Alan Myers doesn’t expect too much activity at Everton today.

Everton have been understood to want new attacking players this month, and a few names have been mentioned already.

Ernest Nuamah has been on Everton’s radar, but it has been all quiet on him recently.

But his Lyon teammate Rayan Cherki has also been of interest to Everton – and John Textor has now issued a statement about the player.

Cherki was a possibility this month for Everton, but other clubs have also been keen to sign him.

It was recently claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were in the mix to sign Cherki along with Everton.

There’s also been some talk that Cherki could be heading to Borussia Dortmund.

Recently, John Textor took to social media to shut down reports Dortmund were set to sign Cherki.

And now, Textor has pretty much all but ruled out Cherki going anywhere on transfer deadline day. He said of the Everton target, as quoted exclusively by Fabrizio Romano: “We rejected Borussia Dortmund offer and we do not intend to negotiate with them or any other club.”

Cherki move was always ambitious for Everton

Cherki is a seriously talented player and Everton were perhaps always up against it to sign him in this window given the club still have an eye on PSR.

But perhaps the club could keep an eye on him ahead of the summer.

He is likely to have a lot of interest in him once again, but Everton will be in a healthier position later this year and The Friedkin Group may be very keep to sign the maverick Cherki to light up the new stadium.

Cherki has scored four goals and made nine assists this season, and the 21-year-old may well be ready to test himself in a new league having already made 167 appearances for Lyon.
