A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes at Everton over the last month to pull the club back on track.

David Moyes has arrived back on Merseyside and the severity of his task was made apparent on Wednesday night.

Everton are confident of signing Ernest Nuamah to bolster their attacking options this month.

But one signing is unlikely to change a great deal at Everton with the Toffees struggling so much.

Although new signings are needed, there is also a need for some further changes to be made behind the scenes.

And there has now been one update at Everton which has had the seal of approval from Jordan Pickford.

Jordan Pickford approves David Lucas Everton hire

Since being appointed the new manager, David Moyes has appointed Billy McKinlay as his Everton assistant.

There have been further changes with Leighton Baines also being appointed as one of the 60-year-old’s assistants.

And according to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are now set to promote David Lucas from the club’s academy.

Lucas is currently the academy’s goalkeeper coach, but is now to become Pickford’s first-team coach.

It is a move which has been given the greenlight by the England number one as Moyes continues to flesh out his coaching staff.

More additions are to be made, though.

Moyes is eyeing Charlie Adam as the new Everton set piece coach, but the Everton manager did admit he has plenty of options to choose from.

Charlie Adam to take on Everton coaching role

Having departed his role at Fleetwood Town, Adam is keen to learn from an experienced manager like Moyes.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Adam shared his admiration for the newly-appointed Everton boss.

“As a young coach, I think how do I stay in the game for as long as Sam [Allaradyce], as David. These are the type of people that you have to look up to and think, how do I get there?” Adam said.

“I’m not afraid to pick the phone up. These people that have been there, they’re willing to help you, so you’ve got to use it. And that’s something that I’m trying to do next, speaking to the right people, and taking valuable experiences from the experienced managers.”

Finding the right fit seems to be of great importance for Moyes.

It was interesting to see Moyes confided in Pickford over the appointment of Lucas as he clearly values what his players think.

After all, Moyes has taken credit for Everton signing Pickford from Sunderland.
