Everton have an opportunity to really assert themselves in the January transfer market with relegation becoming a real fear.

With big changes being made behind-the-scenes at Everton over the last four weeks, it is no surprise to see the Toffees still awaiting their first January arrival.

Moyes wants Everton to make at least two signings before the transfer deadline.

But they may not be the only new faces which Everton see around Finch Farm this month with Moyes also eyeing off-field additions.

Leighton Baines has been promoted to the Everton coaching staff and there may be more new recruits to come through the doors on Merseyside.

David Moyes addresses Charlie Adam talks at Everton

It has already been suggested Moyes is keen to hire Charlie Adam as the latest recruit to his backroom staff at Everton.

Billy McKinlay was chosen by Moyes as his assistant after being appointed over the weekend, but more faces need to be added to flesh it out behind-the-scenes.

When speaking to the media on Friday, Moyes admitted that Adam is a coach who is under consideration amongst a number of options.

“Well, I’m looking. I’ve mentioned that I’d like to bring in somebody to take care of the set pieces in some ways and Charlie’s one of a few who has been mentioned,” said the Scotsman.

“I’ve had a lot of people enquire about it, a lot of very good people, so not made a decision on it but hopefully we might get close to someone shortly.”

Baines has already been tasked with improving Vitaliy Mykolenko as Everton’s only senior left-back.

However, there are still other areas of the pitch which Everton need to improve.

David Moyes says Everton need to improve from set pieces

Martin Keown praised Everton’s set piece threat following their emphatic victory over Wolves last month.

However, this was not necessarily a view shared by Moyes prior to his appointment.

Moyes said Everton needed to improve from set pieces, as well as their general defending after their heavy defeat away to Manchester United.

“But they gave away goals that were really unlike them. They need to be much better defensively, they need to get their set-pieces back working because over the last season or two they have been very good defending and attacking,” he said.

Clearly, Moyes wants a coach to be designated the responsibility of organising the side when it comes to set pieces.

It is a big part of the modern game and it looks as if Adam could soon be headed to Merseyside.
