Competition for striker signings is high in this January transfer window and it is causing Everton some problems.
Sunday’s game against Aston Villa will mark Everton’s fourth game of 2026 as the Blues eye their first win of the year.
David Moyes simply is not getting the returns he needs from his forwards in front of goal, with just four goals scored in the opening three games of 2026.
Ahead of the January window, Everton News columnist Alan Myers wanted Everton to sign a new striker.
Thierno Barry and Beto simply have not been able to find any consistency for the Blues.
More than two weeks into the market and Everton now find themselves battling with other Premier League sides over striker targets.

Leeds United plot a rival move for Everton target Jorgen Strand Larsen
It has been claimed that Everton are keen on Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen as a potential option this month.
This is a striker who is receiving interest from clubs across the Premier League.
According to TeamTalk, Leeds United are now one of those sides as Daniel Farke’s side considers a potential swoop for the Norwegian forward.
How much would you pay for Jorgen Strand Larsen in January? 🤨
He scored 14 in the Premier League last season!
Nottingham Forest also hold an interest in Strand Larsen, with Wolves already looking destined to drop down to the Championship.
The report also credits Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham with an interest in the striker.
Given the struggles on display at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Moyes is serious about signing a new striker before the window closes.
With that said, the clock is ticking down on the Blues and facing competition from some of their Premier League rivals is far from ideal.
Premier League clubs are showing faith in Strand Larsen after Wolves struggles
There’s no hiding from the dreadful 2025/26 campaign being endured at Wolves.
Strand Larsen has been unable to recapture the form he showed last season, which saw him net 14 goals in the Premier League.
Name your Everton signing out of these strikers… 💥
Have we missed anyone out? 🤔
Despite this, there is a host of interested Premier League clubs this month in potentially securing a deal for the striker.
Having been valued in the region of £40m, Alan Shearer has shared his praise for Strand Larsen following previous bids from Newcastle.
Everton also hold an interest in Youssef En-Nesyri, but the Blues will have to weigh up whether they want to risk another striker without Premier League experience.
Of course, Strand Larsen remains a risk given his poor form, but these clubs clearly feel the Norwegian will return to his usual standards if placed in a higher-quality side.
