Everton continued their poor Premier League form on Wednesday night with David Moyes’ homecoming not providing an instant bounce.
It was the story of Everton’s season as the Toffees lost without being able to find the back of the net against Aston Villa.
Moyes admitted he’s embarrassed by Everton’s struggles as his emotions after the game portrayed his clear concerns.
It is going to be a real battle for Moyes to keep Everton up in the Premier League this season with just one point between them and Ipswich Town – ahead of their game on Thursday.
There is time for some changes to be made in the January window, but Micah Richards has also spotted some things which the current crop of players can easily improve on.

Micah Richards criticises erratic Everton in Aston Villa loss
There was a lot left to be desired about the performance at Goodison Park on Wednesday evening.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was criticised by Everton fans as he squandered some huge opportunities to find the back of the net.
But speaking on Match of the Day, Richards has admitted he was left seriously concerned by the lack of composure shown by some of the Everton players.
“Everton are normally good defensively, but I think they got a little bit excited with the new manager bounce,” he said.
“Just like simple passes, experienced professional Ashley Young puts Ollie Watkins one-on-one, Watkins should be putting that away.
“I don’t know what was wrong with them. They were excited for the game but they were too erratic in what they were trying to do at times.”
Leading into the game, Moyes was excited to reunite with the Everton fans but it was not exactly the return to Goodison he will have dreamt of.
The Toffees now have another opportunity on Sunday to turn things around as they welcome a struggling Tottenham Hotspur to Merseyside.
Everton need to upgrade in the January transfer window
After being appointed, Alan Shearer expected Moyes to demand January signings and that has proven to be exactly the case.
The 60-year-old has shied away from answering questions on the need for Everton to improve in the transfer window.
“I think it’s really important if we can add some of that quality and give the players a little lift as well,” he told Match of the Day.
Moyes has two January signings in mind as he eyes attacking reinforcement.
However, it will be interesting to see how the mood will be around Merseyside if they fail to land their targets this month.
