Everton are one of the Premier League sides that are showing an interest in signing James McAtee this summer.

David Moyes is now just days away from jetting off to the United States with his side for the Summer Series.

Three signings have been confirmed at Everton, but there are significant holes in the squad which need filling ahead of the new season.

With pre-season friendlies now underway, Moyes is pushing for more Everton signings.

Everton do hold an interest in McAtee, who looks set to move on from Manchester City at some point this summer.

However, Alan Myers believes there is a player who Everton are looking to sign ahead of the City midfielder.

Everton keen to sign Takefusa Kubo over James McAtee

Another player who Everton have interest in is Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad.

The Japan international is a player who has gained a lot of attention over recent years following his displays in La Liga.

And, taking to social media, Myers has suggested the 24-year-old is someone who Everton hold in higher regard than McAtee.

“I’m sure he [McAtee] will have been looked at but if I was guessing I’d say Kubo would be the more likely next target,” he said.

Everton fans would love to see Kubo signed this summer, in what they feel would be a real statement of intent from the owners.

It has been suggested the 24-year-old could be available for around £25m this summer, which is in the same ballpark as McAtee.

These are two solid options for the Blues, and fans will hope to see one of them come through the doors at Finch Farm.

What Carlo Ancelotti has previously said about Takefusa Kubo

The 2024/25 campaign showed a big positive for Kubo who managed to rack up a stunning 52 appearances across all competitions.

Availability is something that will be a big positive for the Toffees following Dwight McNeil’s injury issues last season.

But Kubo also provides a lot of quality, and that is something Carlo Ancelotti has experienced during his time as the Real Madrid manager.

“Kubo played very well and was very dangerous. In the first half, he [Garcia] played well and in the second, he gave us two fantastic assists that allowed us to win the game,” Ancelotti said back in 2023.

Regardless of who Everton sign, Moyes will want to see more additions made sooner rather than later.
