The real reason Adam Aznou hasn’t played a single game for Everton this season

Everton are heading into the January transfer window looking to make some improvements at full-back despite signing Adam Aznou in the summer.

David Moyes had a host of signings he wanted to make earlier this year after losing a number of players as free agents.

Only so much could be done in the space of one window, with Moyes admitting not every transfer need could be addressed.

Everton have endured somewhat of a turbulent start to the season having seen their early form become a thing of the distant past in recent weeks.

Nine new players were signed over the summer and young left-back Adam Aznou was one of them after signing from Bayern Munich.

However, the 19-year-old is still waiting to showcase his potential to the Everton fans even at this stage in November.

The German media have slammed Aznou for joining Everton, but the real reason behind his struggles has now been shared.

Why Everton are not playing Adam Aznou

Moyes has admitted Everton knew Aznou would be a project after they signed him from the German giants.

“He’s got a bit to do before he’s probably going to be ready for the first team at the moment. But we were aware of that when we brought him in,” Moyes said just over a month ago.

A report from The Athletic has now suggested that Aznou is not viewed as physically ready to take to the pitch in the Premier League.

Everton News reported last week that Everton will look to sign a new full-back in January, with issues at both right and left-back.

Aznou not being available to play is putting the pressure on Vitaliy Mykolenko once again, but his limitations going forward are already well known.

There has been some suggestion that Aznou is growing frustrated with his role at Everton ahead of the January transfer window.

However, Everton’s current attacking struggles from full-back could give Aznou a big opportunity to assert himself in the squad once deemed ready to play.

Aznou will offer a more rounded game than Vitaliy Mykolenko

A lot of Everton fans have grown frustrated watching Mykolenko at left-back, with the Ukraine international offering very little in attack.

Everton’s lack of attacking threat from the full-back positions is putting a lot of pressure on the likes of Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye to create for the strikers.

However, looking at their numbers from the last year, it is clear that Aznou could offer more defensively and in attack than Mykolenko.

Aznou has impressed Moyes in Everton training recently after putting up a good battle against the in-form Ndiaye.

Something needs to change at Everton, with just one win since August on the board and perhaps Aznou could be one of those changes.
