Tony Cascarino calls out Everton fans for making £30m player their scapegoat this season

Everton need to turn their results around soon if they are going to ease the pressure hanging over the club.

It simply has not been good enough from Sean Dyche‘s side who are going into the sixth game of the season on Saturday with just one point to their name.

That point did come last weekend in their trip to Leicester City but, once again, Everton allowed their lead to slip and lost out on two points.

This is the final season at Goodison Park and so far the fans have endured two hugely disappointing defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth.

But there is some sympathy being shown towards one Everton player who is potentially being used as the scapegoat.

Which Everton player Tony Cascarino is sympathising with

Dyche is now under serious pressure from the Everton fans who are demanding their side to make the step up with the results.

But it is not just the fans who Dyche is now needing to impress with The Friedkin Group closing in on their purchase of Everton.

Dan Friedkin is already believed to have the likes of Maurizio Sarri on his radar to potentially replace Dyche over the coming months.

However, TalkSPORT‘s Tony Cascarino thinks there is one player who may be viewed as the scapegoat amid Everton’s ongoing struggles.

“I feel like he has suffered, and I have been there. The confidence factor, most definitely. I have been there,” he said on Saturday morning.

“And you feel like you are the scapegoat when things go wrong, whether you make mistakes, whether you lose a player, whether you give the ball away in a bad area, you make those mistakes and the fans are straight on your back. And it feels like he is carrying that all the time, for me, Michael Keane.

“I don’t want to single out Michael Keane as the scapegoat. I just feel for the guy. It just looks like to me that he is the one the fans will turn on more than any other if he makes a big mistake and he hasn’t been able to win them over.”

Everton’s defence needs big improvement

Last season, the Everton defence was the real strong point of the Toffees play with one of the best defensive records across the entire Premier League.

This time around, it could not be any different with Everton holding the worst record in the league with a whopping 14 goals conceded already.

Of course, Everton are going see Jarrad Branthwaite return from injury soon which will provide them with a huge boost.

And it will likely be the £30m Keane who is the defender who is taken out of the starting XI which is what Cascarino fears a lot of fans will be desperate to see.
