Everton manager David Moyes has admitted Ernest Nuamah is a player the club are looking to sign this month.

After returning to Goodison Park for the first time as Everton manager on Wednesday night, Moyes now has the chance to bounce back on Sunday.

Defeat against Aston Villa now has to be put behind the 60-year-old with Tottenham Hotspur making the trip to Merseyside on Sunday.

Moyes was left embarrassed by Everton’s downfall after the game against Villa.

And it is no surprise considering they’re now at risk of dropping into the bottom three if results do not go their way this weekend.

David Moyes’ response to Everton signing Ernest Nuamah

Everton News understands Everton are confident of signing Ernest Nuamah from Lyon after their latest round of talks went well.

The Toffees have shown a real interest in Nuamah again this month after their approach last summer.

Moyes was questioned during his press conference on Friday afternoon about the 21-year-old winger and Everton’s interest.

“He’s a player I know we’ve been looking at, but I couldn’t say to you for a minute that it’s done or underway,” he replied.

“Unless something has happened that I don’t know about, we’re looking at some players and he’s one of them and hopefully we can get some before the end of the window.”

It is believed Nuamah would approve of a transfer to Everton this month as he continues to struggle in Ligue 1 this season.

But for now, it seems as if Moyes is waiting for things to unfold in the talks between the clubs.

Everton need to sign players to survive

Ahead of the changing of manager, Alan Shearer expected Moyes to be guaranteed Everton signings this month for him to take on the role.

And the 60-year-old has made it clear in his interviews and press conference since being appointed that he is expecting to see new faces brought in.

Whether Nuamah will provide an instant impact is another question.

The winger has struggled in France this season with his numbers not exactly likely to provide much excitement among the fanbase.

However, Kevin Thelwell is pushing for Everton to sign Nuamah and the new owners may just have to trust his judgement.
