Everton fans have plenty of cause for optimism ahead of the summer.

David Moyes is going to be kept busy on Merseyside as he has some tricky decisions to make over the future of some of his players.

Everton are holding contract meetings this week at Finch Farm with the select players they would like to retain.

Some of the players will be allowed to leave Everton as the club will not keep all of them, but there are certainly some they’d like to stick around.

The Toffees are also going to have to fight to keep some of their contracted players.

Jarrad Branthwaite is receiving interest ahead of the summer, but he is not the only player in demand.

Another Everton defender who has been linked with a summer transfer has now commented on his future at the club.

Vitaliy Mykolenko comments on his Everton future

Vitaliy Mykolenko has played a huge role for Everton this season as their only senior left-back.

Having played a lot of football, Mykolenko has received interest from Tottenham Hotspur who are looking to add depth to their squad.

Speaking to the Everton website, the Ukraine international has admitted he wants to play at Bramley-Moore Dock as an Everton player next season.

“I cannot imagine it yet. I can’t believe it will be finished this season, the end of Goodison Park, and we’ll go on to a new stadium and there will be new history,” said Mykolenko.

“But I’m very happy to have played at Goodison – it is a special place – and I am excited to hopefully play at the new stadium as well.”

Mykolenko has received some Everton criticism this season, with the left-back not exactly providing much of an attacking threat.

To his credit, the Ukrainian has played a considerable role in what has been a solid Everton backline this season.

Mykolenko loves playing for Everton under Moyes

Although Moyes would like to sign another left-back, he has shown a lot of trust in Mykolenko since returning to Merseyside.

Mykolenko has 14 times under Moyes already since January having played a whopping 65 games under Sean Dyche.

But the Ukraine international has spoken about how Moyes is trying to help develop his game.

“He wants me to join in the attacks and he always says you not only have one job on the pitch, but two or three,” Mykolenko added.

“I’m trying to be my best not only in defence, but in attack as well.”

Over the last few days, Everton have been linked with Nuno Tavares to bolster their options at left-back.
