David Moyes is pushing Everton’s recruitment drive during the pre-season tour of the United States.

Everton will play their fourth pre-season friendly of the summer on Saturday against AFC Bournemouth.

Despite being on the verge of August, Moyes will only have two new faces to select for the game being hosted at the MetLife Stadium.

Moyes has spoken of his desire to sign nine players before the summer transfer window closes at the beginning of September.

If that is to be the case, the majority of Everton’s transfer business will be done with limited time to integrate the players into the squad.

Everton are keen to add to their midfield this summer and build on the positive news of Idrissa Gana Gueye’s new deal.

Everton News’ chief transfer correspondent, Graeme Bailey, has now been informed of Moyes’ desire to sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus.

David Moyes approves Everton move for Douglas Luiz

With Everton showing an interest in the Brazilian, Luiz did not show up for Juventus training earlier this week.

It was a real indication of where the player’s mind must be at as he eyes a move away from Turin.

Speaking to Everton News, Bailey has shared his latest information on the race to sign Luiz.

“I am told that David Moyes really wants the former Aston Villa man and Everton’s hierarchy are on board,” he said.

“Let’s not forget The Friedkin Group, although not involved in day-to-day transfer situations, have good contacts in Italy and that is helping.

It is believed Luiz’s agents are in England to hold transfer talks with a number of Premier League clubs over the coming days.

“Luiz has a number of options and Everton is one that he is seriously considering,” Bailey added.

Luiz is desperate to return to the Premier League this summer, but it is clear Everton are going to face some serious competition for his signature.

With Juventus valuing Luiz at £35m, it is not going to be an easy deal for Everton.

The Friedkins want to back David Moyes this summer

It is understood that the Friedkins have given Everton a £100m transfer budget this summer to bolster their squad.

Considering the number of additions needed, the Toffees are going to have to utilise the loan market.

But The Friedkin Group are finally able to splash the cash on Merseyside, and adding a player of Luiz’s calibre is something Moyes has voiced his approval of.

With plenty of work to be done, Moyes will now be hoping to see Angus Kinnear and co really begin to kick on in the market.
