Everton are heading into the summer with a number of players who are set to run out of contract.

David Moyes was hoping to see numerous signings made in this winter transfer market, but the wait continues for the Toffees.

Everton are close to signing Carlos Alcaraz on loan until the end of the campaign.

However, Moyes has admitted he’s surprised by how PSR has affected Everton in the market with their ability to spend hindered significantly.

Despite a number of players being out of contract in the summer, Everton have seen any of those players sign pre-contract agreements elsewhere.

And there is now one player who the club have opened talks with over a potential new deal.

Everton open contract talks with Idrissa Gana Gueye

After an impressive season so far, Everton fans want to see Idrissa Gana Gueye handed a new contract on Merseyside.

The midfielder has been a constant feature in the Everton starting XI under both Sean Dyche and Moyes.

According to one club insider, Everton have now opened talks with Gueye over extending his future at Goodison Park.

Those at the club are hoping to see the Senegalese midfielder stick around after what has been a seriously impressive season.

Gueye has really enjoyed working under Moyes with the 35-year-old already noticing a difference behind-the-scenes.

With Orel Mangala now out through injury, Gueye’s importance to this Everton side is likely to become even more apparent.

Losing Gueye on a free would be a disaster for Everton

Ahead of the winter transfer market, Gueye had received interest from Qatar but nothing has materialised with just days to go.

The 35-year-old has been a constant in the Everton side this season with 20 Premier League starts to his name.

Dyche hailed Gueye as ‘excellent’ during his tenure on Merseyside after relying on the Senegal international despite bringing in midfielders like James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam.

Considering the frailties Everton have experienced with PSR, losing a player of Gueye’s quality for free would potentially be a real mistake from the owners.
