Everton are just about up and running in the winter transfer market.

On Friday evening, it was claimed Everton agreed a deal to sign Carlos Alcaraz on loan from Flamengo with the option to buy in the summer.

It has taken the Toffees until the very last days of the transfer window to make their move, but it looks like the first signing is Merseyside-bound.

Alcaraz is expected to fly to England on Saturday to complete his proposed move to Everton.

But the Friedkins may not be done just there, with Everton keen to bring in two players ahead of the window opening.

And there is already another midfielder who is believed to be on the radar of the Toffees.

Everton looking to beat Tottenham to Angel Gomes signing

Orel Mangala has suffered a season-ending knee injury which has put a strain on David Moyes’ options in the midfield.

Fortunately, the 60-year-old has recently seen James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam return from their own issues.

But according to ESPN, Everton are also considering a potential move for the Lille and England international Angel Gomes.

The 24-year-old is free to speak to foreign clubs over a pre-contract agreement as he nears the end of his deal in France.

However, the Friedkins would have to beat the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in the race for his signature.

It is expected any deal for the midfielder would be over a summer move.

Everton are also rivaling Tottenham for defender Ousmane Diao after the two clubs watched him in Europa League action on Thursday night.

Angel Gomes would provide a long-term midfield option

Everton fans want Idrissa Gana Gueye to sign a new contract, but the Blues may be looking to the long-term future this summer.

At just 24-years-old, Gomes would offer Moyes a real focal point in the midfield for years to come on Merseyside.

Following a game for England last year, TalkSPORT reporter Adrian Durham was left blown away by the Lille midfielder.

“Just looks so comfortable and what’s not to love about the black boots? Honestly, if you’re wearing black boots, you’re going to be an absolute star,” he said.

“He’s diminutive, it doesn’t matter. He doesn’t care. He doesn’t get beaten up off the ball or beaten up on the ball, he’s so good and his passing range is good as well.”

Gomes has played in France for five years after leaving Manchester United.

The midfielder has racked up plenty of experience with 132 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit, but it looks as if he may now be ready to return to his homeland.
