Referee Darren Bond told he made major error in Everton’s victory over Leicester City

Everton may feel they could have scored even more on Saturday afternoon in their victory over Leicester City.

It was another emphatic home victory for David Moyes’ side who are really beginning to pull away from the bottom three.

A nine-point gap has now been opened by Everton on 18^th place, with the Toffees even leapfrogging Tottenham Hotspur in the table.

Everton fans were delighted with Beto’s display against Leicester as he netted two first-half goals on his return to the starting XI.

However, there could have been an opportunity for the Portuguese striker to have walked away with the match ball.

Both Gary Lineker and Shay Given were left agreeing that Everton should have been awarded a penalty.

Referee Darren Bond made major error in Everton vs Leicester

Just a couple of weeks ago, Lineker handed Dominic Calvert-Lewin some advice on rediscovering his form in front of goal.

However, the striker’s injury against Brighton & Hove Albion has meant Beto is now Moyes’ only senior option up top.

But the 26-year-old did not waste his opportunity and caused Leicester some serious issues.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Given and Lineker both felt Beto should have been awarded a penalty after being taken out by Jannik Vestergaard.

“I think this was a little bit lucky, Leicester might have gotten away with one there. But Beto was really strong,” said Given.

“I would say so, yes,” added Lineker.

This was when the score was still 2-0 and Everton could have really put the game to bed even earlier.

Beto hinted towards his Everton future with his celebration after scoring his second goal, but he will be frustrated not to have walked away with the match ball.

Beto proved he can be Everton’s main striker

It has been a difficult period for the Portuguese striker on Merseyside with a real lack of opportunities coming under Sean Dyche.

Beto has been angered by David Moyes after not starting any of the opening three games under the Scotsman.

But it proved to be fourth time lucky for Beto who made no mistakes against the Foxes and put in a real statement performance against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side.

Torino have been keen to sign Beto this winter, but Everton fans will be relieved to see the 26-year-old still on Merseyside with performances like that.

Having performed the way he did, it just begs the question why he has not started more games in an Everton shirt.
