After David Moyes’ appointment, many pundits have given their opinion on who is the perfect fit for Everton at this moment in time.
The new Everton boss is beginning to settle in as Moyes has returned to Merseyside.
Moyes said he’ll put pressure on Everton players, as he’s aiming to prove why his return to the Toffees came about.
An appointment that has been questioned but will no doubt bring a fresh feeling back to Evertonians.
However, former Everton player Theo Walcott has suggested although he likes Moyes, he favours someone else.

Theo Walcott thinks Everton should’ve gone for Graham Potter
Moyes spoke on Sean Dyche’s exit from Everton as he looks to help guide the Toffees away from relegation something his predecessor was struggling at.
With their situation, Moyes will develop Everton’s style of play once safety is secured, but Walcott believes they had a unique style of play waiting in the wings, that would’ve made a stronger connection.
Speaking on the Football Daily podcast (7:32), Walcott is not against Moyes but saw Graham Potter as the ideal candidate for The Friedkin Group.
“I like Moyes as manager, I feel Graham Potter might have been the shout before West Ham got in there,” Walcott said.
“They could play a different style of football, I felt Potter would’ve been a good match.
“I feel Potter would’ve been a more forward-thinking, younger generational manager, that can really attract players coming through.”

Everton would’ve played attractive football under Potter
Stan Collymore saw Potter better suited at Everton as opposed to West Ham, with both sides struggling in the Premier League this season.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 14 | 20 | 6 | 5 | 9 | 24 | 39 | -15 | 23 | |
| 15 | 20 | 4 | 9 | 7 | 21 | 28 | -7 | 21 | |
| 16 | 19 | 3 | 8 | 8 | 15 | 25 | -10 | 17 | |
| 17 | 20 | 4 | 4 | 12 | 31 | 45 | -14 | 16 |
This can be argued but Everton would have played better football under Potter, with the former Chelsea manager being known for his possession-based style at Brighton where he put the Seagulls on the map.
| Brighton’s statistics in Potter’s final full season – ranked out of 20 (21/22) | |
| Average possession | 54.5% (4th) |
| Accurate passes per match | 404.9 (6th) |
| Clean sheets | 11 (8th) |
| Touches in opposition box | 933 (6th) |
| Accurate crosses per match | 4.9 (2nd) |
Potter was interested by the Everton job, but it seemed as though West Ham was always likely to be his destination.
The Hammers probably have a better squad than Everton as well which probably suited Potter more, but there was always a chance he could get the best out of Everton’s current flock and potentially unlocked the Toffees’ younger talent.
The likes of Harrison Armstrong would’ve made for interesting viewing under Potter, who developed the potential of Moises Caicedo and Tariq Lamptey in the 2021/22 season.
However, there is no doubt Moyes will give Armstrong the chance.
Moyes is the man for the job now, but Everton fans may have the prospect of a Graham Potter Everton in the back of their minds.
