Everton’s winter market left a lot to be desired with their only deal of the window being left right until the last minute.
Carlos Alcaraz jetted into England on Saturday to complete his move to Merseyside after the two clubs struck an agreement.
However, Everton were forced to submit a deal sheet and take up a time extension to get it over the line.
One signing for David Moyes may not quite have been what he was hoping for, but the Blues have put themselves in a strong position to avoid the drop.
The Friedkins were hamstrung by PSR over the winter window, which had Everton largely eyeing potential loan signings.
However, the summer could offer something different with brighter times ahead for the Toffees.
But the extent of Farhad Moshiri’s lack of investment in the squad has been revealed in a recent transfer insight.

Everton’s transfer spending over the last three seasons
Everton have been promised s healthy summer budget by the Friedkins following what was a slow January window.
But the Toffees will have some making up to do with their spending over recent years having really taken a hit.
According to finance expert Kieran Maguire, Everton are the second-lowest spending side over the last three years.
In comparison to Chelsea’s staggering £1.3b spent, Everton have spent a mere £166m on players over the last three years.
Perhaps there is an element of Moshiri expecting to sell the club and not looking to invest his money.
But Everton have also been hit hard by PSR over recent years and they saw the ramifications from that last season.
The new Everton stadium is expected to create £40m extra per year through an increased revenue stream, which will help their ability to spend.
And there seems to be a desire from the new owners to put their money into improving the side.

Everton need a big summer transfer window
The Friedkins are expected to invest in the summer at Everton with a number of players looking set to leave as free agents.
There has been signs of big improvement under Moyes, but there is still a lot that needs to be done over the summer if they are to really push on.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin sums up the struggles on Merseyside this season: out of form and struggling through injury.
Everton have offered Calvert-Lewin a new deal, but perhaps it is time to move on with the striker failing to really impress until one game in January.
But the new stadium will offer a fresh start and some big changes could take place on and off the pitch over the summer.
