Everton’s interest in one of their winter targets could now be blocked ahead of Monday’s deadline.

It’s been a frustrating few weeks for David Moyes who is still yet to see a signing officially made on Merseyside.

Everton have agreed a deal to sign Carlos Alcaraz with the midfielder set to jet into England on Saturday to complete his medical.

But the 60-year-old may feel the Everton chiefs are doing too little too late given the circumstances at Goodison Park.

Everton could be pulled back into the relegation mix with a defeat against Leicester City, on top of their injury issues.

With significant injuries up top, Everton are eyeing a new forward but their interest in one specifically could now be blocked.

Paulo Fonseca could block Everton’s Ernest Nuamah interest

Everton hold an interest in Ernest Nuamah of Lyon ahead of Monday’s deadline to bolster their attacking options.

However, a change of manager at the Ligue 1 side could now put a real spanner in the works.

Everton targeted Paulo Fonseca before appointing Moyes and the Portuguese manager has just been named the new Lyon manager.

Speaking in his unveiling press conference on Friday, Fonseca admitted he is really pleased with the group of players he has inherited.

“We will work together to identify the team’s needs. For now, I don’t think we need reinforcements in defence,” he said.

“I am satisfied with the group. If an interesting opportunity presents itself, why not, but my priority remains to improve the quality of our work.”

It is expected Nuamah will remain at Lyon this window with his future to be assessed again in the summer.

With just hours to go, it will be interesting to see whether Everton do make a push to sign a forward before Monday evening.

Ernest Nuamah started for Lyon against Ludogorets

Nuamah has remained a regular in Lyon’s matchday squad amid all of the transfer speculation over the last month.

On Thursday night, the 21-year-old started in the Europa League against Ludogorets.

Everton have held long-standing interest in Nuamah with the Toffees keen to make a deal happen last summer.

But it looks like this is a transfer saga which is going to frustrate many Everton fans with seemingly another failed move this window for the £25m-rated Nuamah.
